Manhattan Bridge Club Lesson Programs

The Beginner and Experienced Player Lesson Programs

All lessons are under the direct supervision of Jeff Bayone and Jesus Arias, owners of the club. Jeff is also the author of the beginner's book It's Bridge Baby  and was New York Times "Guru of the Week."

THE BEGINNER COURSE: Not what you might expect.

The basics, but with a few twists.

FIRST: You get cards in your hands and start playing almost from the moment you sit down. No such thing as blackboard work or note taking. After all, it's a game - you learn by playing. And our common-sense, non memorizing approach, eases you into it effortlessly. We guarantee you'll be playing bridge by the middle of the first lesson.

SECOND: Only four or five students to a class. For five of the seven sessions it will be you and three or four other real, real beginners and your instuctor. One table - one teacher.

There will also be two group sessions. There you will get to practice what you learned, be introduced to other teachers at the club, and meet all the other players at your level.

Classes are forming right now for our first Fall 2010 series.

They each meet once a week for seven weeks.

                     We'll have classes:

Monday or Thursday afternoons at 1:30pm

Tuesday evenings at 6:45pm at our 2nd Avenue club

Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings (various times)

        Saturday mornings at 10:30am

Seven lessons, plus a copy of  It's Bridge, Baby , for $200.

These classes teach you how not to think like a beginner. They include the "right" way to count out hands; what you should be thinking about before playing to the first trick; counting tricks as declarer and defender; preemptive bidding, balancing, negative doubles, distributional bids, and more advanced play technique.  Four to six practice hands are thoroughly analyzed every session. $27 per lesson.

CONVENTIONS COURSE:

Each week a different convention will be highlighted. We will actually be following the convention card.
